The Life of Human Barbie
Human Barbie Valeria Lukyanova, now also apparently going by the nickname Space Barbie, is dipping her toes into the EDM scene and has released her first single. Consider this another reason why she is so fascinating. Her musical debut is not a cover of Aqua’s “Barbie Girl,” unfortunately — instead she’s partnered with DJ Sender, a Ukrainian producer, on an old-school rave banger titled “Jack Your Barbie.”
The titular “Jack” is apparently a character also referenced in the classic ’80s Rhythm Control hit “My House,” Lukyanova told Billboard; she knows her stuff when it comes to the genre. “When I’m singing, it’s like a deep trance for me,” she continued. “Music will help people relax and make a journey into their hidden places inside … You need to close your eyes and go deep within, like nothing exists but you and the music.”
Lukyanova says is working on a full album with DJ Spencer, which will include tracks on which she sings in “ancient forgotten languages” (this is designed to lull listeners into a “meditative state” and before you know it, Human Barbie has hypnotized you and you’ve sent her all your credit card info, great). She is planning a worldwide solo DJ tour to showcase her music, and spread her message of transcendental spirituality and love. Lovely.
